About My School

GreenLawns High School was founded in 1959. The Aim of the School is to train children to lead full and useful lives through a Liberal Education and a Board Curriculum. They are prepared for the I.C.S.E examinations as a basis for a career or a profession. Every encouragement is given to all students to enter fully into the various activities provided to broaden their interests and provide an opportunity to discover and develop latent talent. Such activities play an important part in bringing students and staff together outside the classroom and in forming a basis for a happy and harmonious mutual understanding so essential both to students steady development as a person, and to his academic progress and success.

Facilities

  • Library : Our library consist of approx 18,500 books. These books are classified according to D D C and catalogued according to AACR-2. These books are arranged according to the subject on the Shelves in the Cupboard. There are a wide variety of books but the the books are not in perfect condition with some of the pages torn. The Reference books are particularly good. The librarians are very helpful. Sometime back a Xerox facility was available in the library but was abruptly discontinued. I feel this facility should be revived. After the recent renovation, the library has become really good.

  • Laboratory : After the recent renovation, the laboratory, located on the 4th floor, has become really good. It is well equipped for all experiments in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The new Lab sports white boards, white vitrified working table, new and updated equipments as well as specimens. The Lab assistants are very helpful.
  • Sports Greenlawns took part in the Interschool football tournament for under 16 years, under 14 years, under 12 years :

Regular practices were conducted for all age groups. The under 12 team practised on every Tuesdays & Thursday from 4.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. & the under 14 & under 16 practices on every Saturdays & Sundays from 7.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. at the August Kranti Maidan Gowalia Tank. They did quite well in the tournament & our under 16 & under 12 team reached the quarter final stages. This year they will be participating in the Interschool Cricket Tournament. Selection for Juniors & Seniors was held on the 3rd & 5th of October 2000. At the Hindu Gymkhana Ground, Marine Lines, 18 boys for each team were selected & these boys are now undergoing coaching twice a week at Hindu Gymkhana under the supervision of a professional coach. They also conducted the inter-house volley ball tournament. As of 2003, there were regular training sessions everyday at the Priyadarshini Park. The P.T teachers are very good but not more than 2 hours of training time is scheduled during the week for 9th and 10th standard students.

  • Canteen : All fresh Mouth watering Dishes are available in the Canteen, maintains good hygiene and serves healthy food. Dishes range from Dosas, Vadas, Pav Bhaji to Pizzas, sandwitches, Chocolates, cutlets, chips, etc. All the South Indian dishes are served with chutney and sambhar. During lunchtime two canteens are set up to meet the rush. All in all Shetty's canteens is the best.

  • Computer Lab : The new revamped Computer Lab boasts of about 40 P4 computers running Windows XP and is located in the erstwhile shed. The Lab is fully air-conditioned and is fully networked. The only sad thing is that my batch was the biggest Computer batch to pass out and we got only the old beaten down Lab.

  • Courtyard : The courtyard is small but can be converted into a basketball, thowball, handball, etc court. The backyard has some swings as well as provisions for long jump and high jump.

  • Extra-Curricular Activities : These activities range from elocution, sports, debates, quiz, flower arrangement, rangoli, singing competition, etc.

Teachers

The pre-primary teachers are very good at teaching the basics to young toddlers and build a strong foundation. The primary teachers are ok but some of them are really inexperienced. The Secondary section teachers are excellant in all the subjects and students donot need to join any extra classes. The teachers in my batch were really out of this world. The respective class teachers are very good. The principal, Mrs Kiran Bajaj is a very good Geography teacher and a strict but a good principal.
